Just Ain't Right auditions for Azalea Stakes in Liza Jane

Trainer Rohan Crichton already has one possible starter, Trenchtown Cat, for the Azalea Stakes on Summit of Speed Day at Gulfstream Park. He’s hoping to add another to that list after Just Ain’t Right competes in the $75,000 Liza Jane overnight stakes, the featured event on Friday’s nine-race program at Gulfstream Park.
Just Ain’t Right joined Crichton’s barn after being purchased for $150,000 at the Keeneland April sale. The 3-year-old daughter of Yes It’s True began her career with trainer Todd Pletcher, winning her first two starts, both going six furlongs on the main track at Gulfstream, before finishing third on grass while making her stakes debut in the Melody of Colors on Feb. 23.
“She came to us in very good shape; she’s doing really well,” said Crichton. “We were looking for something to prep her for the Azalea, and this race popped up. She’s the reason why I ran Trenchtown Cat against older horses last weekend, since of the two fillies she’s a little more advanced and had run a little more recently.”
Trenchtown Cat registered an impressive victory over older fillies and mares in the Ana T. stakes last Saturday and is under consideration for either the Azalea or Grade 2 Princess Rooney on June 29.
Just Ain’t Right will receive a four-pound weight concession under the allowance conditions of the Liza Jane from Capture Your Dream and Lovesick, both of whom were stakes winners at 2 and will be making their 3-year-old debuts.
Capture Your Dream won her first two starts in impressive fashion for trainer Mark Casse, including the six-furlong Desert Vixen, the opening leg of the Florida Sire Stakes, by 1 1/4 lengths on Aug. 4. She has not started since finishing far back as the 3-5 favorite four weeks later in the middle leg of the series, the seven-furlong Susan’s Girl.
Capture Your Dream has registered six works at Palm Meadows since April 5, including a bullet half-mile from the gate in 47.40 seconds on May 4.
Lovesick also captured her first two outings, a 4 1/2-furlong maiden dash at Gulfstream Park on Aug. 19 and the 6 1/2-furlong Juvenile Fillies Sprint at Gulfstream Park West three months later. And like Capture Your Dream, she disappointed in her juvenile finale, running third as the even-money choice in Tampa Bay Downs’s Sandpiper on a sloppy track Dec. 15.
Lovesick has six works of her own since April 21, topped by a bullet five-eighths in 1:00.60 at Gulfstream Park on May 19.
The recent allowance winner Calinas Song, Jessica, Paula Andrea, and Cory Gal complete the field.
