Jungle Runner takes Clever Trevor Stakes

Jungle Runner established himself as one of the top locals for next month's $400,000 Springboard Mile at Remington Park when he darted to a length and a quarter win over stablemate Something Super in Friday night’s $100,000 Clever Trevor. It was another three lengths back in third to Tale Twister.
The Clever Trevor, for 2-year-olds at seven furlongs, served as the local stepping-stone to the Springboard Mile, a Kentucky Derby points race to be run Dec. 15.
Jungle Runner ($6.20) stalked the pace Friday night as It’s My Money set fractions of 23.55 seconds for the opening quarter and 47.60 for the half-mile. Jungle Runner moved to the lead from there, and went on to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:24.88.
Ramon Vazquez was aboard Jungle Runner for trainer Steve Asmussen - one of three winners the men had together on the card. Overall, Vazquez and Asmussen each won four races Friday night at Remington.
Vazquez won the first, fifth, sixth and eighth races, while Asmussen struck in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth.
Jungle Runner is a Calumet Farm homebred by Candy Ride. He won a maiden special weight at a mile at Remington Park one start prior to the Clever Trevor. Jungle Runner has now won 2 of 4 starts and earned $81,165.
Racing resumes Saturday with a special afternoon post of 1:30 p.m. Central.
