Judy the Beauty to go in CERF Stakes

DEL MAR, Calif. – Judy the Beauty, the champion female sprinter of 2014, will prep for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint at Keeneland on Oct. 31 in the $80,000 CERF Stakes at Del Mar on Sept. 6.
Owner and trainer Wesley Ward said on Saturday that the timing of the CERF Stakes is ideal to prepare Judy the Beauty for the $1 million BC Filly and Mare Sprint, a race she won in 2014 at Santa Anita.
“I’ve been looking at it,” Ward said. “She needs the race, and she’s ready to run.”
The CERF Stakes is run at six furlongs and is restricted to fillies and mares who have not won a first-place purse of $50,000 in a stakes other than statebred races since March 1. Judy the Beauty has not won this year. She was second in the Grade 1 Humana Distaff at Churchill Downs on May 2 in her first start since the Breeders’ Cup and third in the Grade 2 Honorable Miss at Saratoga on July 29.
Ward said he considered the Presque Isle Masters in Pennsylvania on Sept. 7 but has opted for the CERF Stakes because it will be run on a dirt track.
A 6-year-old mare by Ghostzapper, Judy the Beauty has won 9 of 20 starts and earned $1,740,922 in her career.
