HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla – There are three allowance events on Sunday’s 11-race program at Gulfstream Park, but at this time of the season it’s always the 2-year-olds who garner the bulk of the attention. A field of 10 up-and-coming juveniles square off going one mile over the main track for a $61,000 purse in Sunday’s featured 10th race. Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. holds a strong hand, sending out the pair of A. P.’s Secret and his uncoupled stablemate Skippylongstocking in a field that includes the Todd Pletcher-trained So Determined. A. P.’s Secret is the lesser experienced but more highly regarded of the Joseph duo, having run to his 6-5 backing when rallying to an impressive four-length victory making his much-anticipated career debut going seven furlongs here four weeks earlier. He earned a Beyer Figure of 68. :: Bet the races with confidence on DRF Bets. The race came back with just an average number, so hopefully he’ll make that jump the next time. He’s always struck me as a horse who could grow up to be very classy, and stretching out to a mile should also help him make that jump. If he runs like he’s been training and the way we think he can, he should be tough to beat.” It took Skippylongstocking three starts to win a maiden race, doing so by 10 1/2 lengths when stretching out to a mile here on Sept. 26. In his only subsequent start, Skippylongstocking was a distant fourth going two turns for the first time in the Street Sense at Churchill Downs. His older brother Moonlite Strike finished third earlier this year in the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby, “Skippy is a solid horse, although I’m not sure he’s in A. P. Secret’s class,” Joseph said. “He disappointed me a bit last time, so hopefully he can bounce back with a big effort on Sunday.” So Determined was also a bit disappointing when finishing second following a slow start from the rail after being backed to 4-5 in his debut. He made amends with a 4 1/2-length maiden victory six weeks later, for which he earned a 72 Beyer Speed Figure. Both those starts were at 5 1/2 furlongs and came against Florida-breds. Strike Hard, who will race with blinkers for the first time, also won his maiden going a mile here during the summer session and is coming off a solid second-place finish behind the Joseph-trained White Abarrio in an allowance race here. White Abarrio went on to finish third in the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club at Churchill Downs. Also Sunday, Miss Auramet will return home to top a field of nine fillies and mares going five furlongs on the grass under allowance conditions. The field also includes the speedy graded stakes winner Cookie Dough in her turf debut. :: Get Daily Racing Form Past Performances – the exclusive home of Beyer Speed Figures.  Miss Auramet is back in familiar surroundings with trainer Eddie Plesa Jr. after spending the summer with Kathleen O’Connell at Monmouth Park, where she captured the Politely Stakes over a sloppy track and finished second twice on grass. Other key contenders include Bernie’s Mistress, Reinagol, and Fouzia. ◗ Jockey Emisael Jaramillo jumped out to a quick start on opening day of the Championship meet, guiding Cashier Check and Adventure Seeker to wire-to-wire victories in Friday’s early daily double. The first half of the card also featured a win by Romario in the first allowance and first turf race of the new session. Miguel Vasquez was aboard Romario, who rallied wide from last to win for trainer Mark Passley.
