Joseph pointing pair of juveniles to first legs of Florida Sire Stakes

Saffie Joseph Jr., who is the runaway leader in the trainer standings at Gulfstream with 88 wins through Tuesday, has a pair of recent maiden winners pointing for the first leg of the Florida Sire Stakes.

He said Neoequos will likely make his next start in the $100,000 Dr. Fager division for 2-year-old colts and geldings, while R Morning Brew is probable for the $100,000 Desert Vixen division for 2-year-old fillies. Both races will be run over six furlongs on Sept. 7 at Gulfstream.

Neoequos won a maiden special weight sprint by 2 1/2 lengths Aug. 10 at Gulfstream and earned a strong Beyer Speed Figure of 76.

“He won nice,” said Joseph.

R Morning Brew was a 4 1/2-length winner of another maiden special weight at Gulfstream on Aug. 9. She is bred to be a quality sort, as a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Dancing N Dixie.

The Florida Sire Stakes continues with a pair of seven-furlong divisions Oct. 19 and a pair of 1 1/16-mile divisions Nov. 30.

Joseph has a 49-win lead in the trainer standings, with Jose D’Angelo second in wins at the meet with 39.
