Joseph loaded with contenders in Sunday allowance races
HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – A trio of allowance races highlight Sunday’s 10-race program, with each carrying a $47,000 purse and with two of the three scheduled for the turf. Leading trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.’s barn is well represented in all three events.
In the fifth race, restricted to Florida-bred fillies and mares, Joseph sends out Passion Plus as the likely favorite going a mile and one-sixteenth on the grass. Passion Plus has finished second in her last two starts for the same $16,000 price tag she’ll compete under on Sunday. Last out winners Little Bit Good, Wonder Blondy, Livin At the Beach, and Baseline Drive are among the competition.

Race 8, a seven-furlong entry-level dash on the main track, also for statebreds, features the Joseph pair of Bailey and Creative Cloud, each a winner of his most recent start, with Bailey appearing best of the duo. They’ll square off against five rivals, led by the stakes-placed Seazan and in-form Sososbutle.
It will be back to the turf for the ninth event, carded at a mile and one-sixteenth for 3-year-olds and up, with the Joseph-trained pair of Calibrator and Til the End each exiting a victory and likely to vie for favoritism with Max K. O., Lahinch, and Mr Matuschek.
Mr Matuschek brings a two-race win streak into the event, but loses her regular rider Chantel Sutherland to Everyonelovesjames, who comes off a game fourth-place effort under similar conditions while making his first outing in over a year and first for trainer Jennifer Young
