Joseph enjoys a five-win Saturday

Adding to what already has been a fabulous year, Saffie Joseph Jr. won five of the 11 races run last Saturday at Gulfstream, marking a personal high.
“We did four already, but this was the most,” said Joseph. “It was a great day.”
Only two of the five winners were favorites, and Joseph had a starter in only one other Saturday race, that being Treasure King, seventh in the Bear’s Den. The final odds on his winners were 9-5, 6-5, 7-1, 9-2, and 6-1.

Joseph, a 35-year-old Barbados native, starts this week at the five-month spring-summer meet with 45 wins, making him easily the leading trainer. His career arc continues to soar ever higher as his stable continues to grow in numbers and stature, with satellite strings currently in Kentucky and New York besides full barns at Gulfstream and Palm Meadows. He was the first trainer since 2003 besides Todd Pletcher to top the standings at the championship meet – which he capped by winning the Florida Derby with White Abarrio – and his stable is on pace to surpass the benchmark of $9,066,606 he set for himself last year.
“Things are going very well and we’re very grateful,” said Joseph.
