Jones sets earnings record

CYPRESS, Calif. - Trainer Paul Jones set a single-season Quarter Horse earnings record Friday night when La Premier Fleur finished second in the seventh race at Los Alamitos. La Premier Fleur earned $1,687, pushing Jones's earnings for the year to $3,531,720.

The record had belonged to Hall of Famer Blane Schvaneveldt, who earned $3,531,572 in 1984.

"It is an honor to be in the company of Blane Schvaneveldt," Jones said.

Jones has a realistic chance to surpass $4 million in earnings before the end of the year. He figures to have strong contenders in several of the meet's richest races, including the $1.3 million Los Alamitos Million and $500,000 Champion of Champions. Jones will saddle reigning co-world champion Whosleavingwho in the Champion of Champions.
