John Henry Stakes rescheduled for Saturday

Evangeline Downs is scheduled to race Wednesday night after weathering a tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico that briefly turned into a hurricane. The track canceled last Saturday night’s card in advance of the storm, and the $50,000 John Henry Stakes, which was part of the program, has been rescheduled for this Saturday night.
“The track is fine, the barns are fine,” Chris Warren, director of racing for Evangeline, said on Monday. “We got a lot of rain.”
Evangeline is expected to be off the turf Wednesday night.
Warren also is director of racing for Delta Downs, and said the Vinton, La., track, which just wrapped up its meet for Quarter Horses, was getting a fair amount of rain on Monday.
The John Henry, which was was redrawn last weekend, picked up one additional horse, allowance winner A Song for Arch, to make for a field of nine Saturday. The group also includes original entrants Mocito Rojo, a Grade 3 winner; In the Navy, a multiple stakes winner; and Harlan Selection, who has won his last four races, his latest at Evangeline.
