Joevia makes quick turnaround for Stymie

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Joevia, third in last year’s Belmont Stakes, was entered for Saturday’s $125,000 Stymie Stakes following a last-place finish in the Grade 3 Razorback on Feb. 17 at Oaklawn.
Trainer Gregg Sacco said the horse did not put forth much of an effort in the Razorback, enabling him to wheel back in this one-turn mile race.
“If it’s any indication how he’s trained since coming back from Oaklawn, I think he’s going to give us a good performance,” Sacco said.
Joevia drew post 3 and will be ridden by Chris DeCarlo in a seven-horse field that includes Stan the Man, Lone Rock, American Anthem, Wicked Trick, Diamond King, and Backsideofthemoon.

Lake Avenue, Maedean clash
Lake Avenue beat Maedean by four lengths when they met here in the Grade 3 Demoiselle Stakes last Dec. 7. Neither has run since, and the two will kick off their 3-year-old campaigns in Saturday’s $250,000 Busher Invitational at a one-turn mile.
Lake Avenue, trained by Bill Mott, owns a maiden win going a one-turn mile, albeit against three horses. Maedean, trained by Mark Hennig, won her maiden and the Tempted Stakes both going a one-turn mile.
Maedean drew post 4 and Lake Avenue post 5 in an eight-horse field that includes Mo City, Kansas Kis, Panthera Onca, Water White, Persisto, and Inveterate.
