Joe Six Pack romps in Minstrel

Jeff Taylor|Sep 28, 2003

Bossier City, La. - Joe Six Pack ran his record to a perfect two-for-two Saturday, winning the $40,000 Minstrel Stakes by six and a half lengths in a sharp effort. Next Bandit, who carved out some quick early fractions, finished second, four and a quarter lengths in front of longshot Britt's Jules.

Owned by Gary and Mary West and trained by Cole Norman, Joe Six Pack ($4.20) stalked Next Bandit through an opening quarter of :21.96 before Carlos Gonzalez moved him toward the front late in the turn. The two leaders dueled into the stretch before the winner kicked well clear in the final furlong in a fine time of 1:10.74 for the six furlongs over a fast track.
