Joe Bear positive for clenbuterol

Joe Bear, trained by Philip Mitchell, has tested positive for clenbuterol and could lose his July 18 victory in Newmarket's Joe Jennings Rated Handicap, his last race in England before he placed in both the Secretariat Stakes at Arlington Park and the Jamaica Handicap at Belmont Park.

A split sample must be analyzed before Joe Bear is disqualified from the Joe Jennings. His positive test follows those of Tillerman, who was disqualified from second in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot for the same substance, and Three Valleys, Juddmonte Farm's leading juvenile, who will lose his victory in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes if his split sample is positive.

Mitchell maintains that he followed Jockey Club guidelines concerning clenbuterol by allowing eight days between its use and race day.
