Jockeys at Parx agree to ride on Saturday
Jockeys at Parx racetrack have agreed to ride for Saturday’s card at the track after refusing to be named on mounts for the last two days, the president of the Jockeys’ Guild said late on Thursday night.
Terry Meyocks, the top official at the guild, said the jockeys would ride the Saturday card after receiving assurances that the track would address concerns about the condition of the jockeys’ room over a brief August break. Meyocks also said that representatives of the track and the guild planned to hash out concerns over the Parx’s contributions to a fund providing for injured jockeys in the future.
“There’s a lot of pieces we have to talk about but the riders are ready to go,” Meyocks said.

Parx released an overnight on Wednesday for the Saturday card without any riders being named on mounts. Representatives of the riders said earlier this week that they had concerns about the condition of the jockeys’ room and the track’s handling of rider issues related to licensing.
Parx holds live racing nearly year round, but the track is scheduled to take a break from Aug. 5-28 this year. Meyocks said that track officials committed to renovating the jocks’ room during that break.
