Jockeys' Guild records demanded

Matt Hegarty|Sep 21, 2005

The U.S. House Subcommittee of Oversight and Investigations issued subpoenas on Tuesday night to L. Wayne Gertmenian, the chief executive of the Jockeys' Guild, demanding that the guild turn over financial and personnel records that are being sought by the committee.

The subpoenas order Gertmenian to turn over the records personally by Oct. 3. The records include financial statements from the Guild going back to 2001, copies of contracts between the Guild and Gertmenian's consulting company, Matrix Capital Associates, and "all records related to the Guild's insurance policies since 1999."

The Guild had been asked to turn over the records voluntarily on two occasions as part of an investigation into the Guild and jockey insurance issues that began in April.
