Jockeys escape serious injury

Four jockeys were fortunate to escape serious injury on an eventful closing-day program Wednesday at Kentucky Downs.
Corey Lanerie and Rafael Mojica Jr. both took off later mounts after a sixth-race spill. Lanerie’s helmet broke and his pants were torn when he suffered a minor neck injury, while Mojica escaped with bruising. Greta Kuntzweiler eventually returned after taking off an unruly mount who threw her in the paddock prior to the second, while Miguel Mena incurred a minor knee injury when his mount broke through the gate prior to the seventh.
Meanwhile, Chris Landeros picked up the mount from Lanerie in guiding Dimension to a narrow come-from-behind triumph in the last of three stakes on the day, the Kentucky Downs Turf Dash. Earlier, White Rose and Angel Terrace won split divisions of the Kentucky Downs Ladies Marathon.
White Rose and Angel Terrace both can be expected back in the Oct. 19 Dowager at Keeneland.
Kentucky Downs ended its five-day meet with a record average all-sources handle of nearly $3.2 million per day and average field size of 10.2 horses per race.
