Scott Spieth became the 35th jockey to reach 5,000 winners in North America earlier this week, achieving the milestone in the first week of the meeting at Presque Isle Downs. Spieth, 57, piloted the Florida-bred filly Wheelingndealing to a one-length victory in an allowance race May 27 at Presque Isle. The filly is trained by his wife, Aldana Spieth. According to Equibase statistics, that gave Spieth 5,000 victories from 31,877 career Thoroughbred mounts, for earnings of more than $67.1 million. Spieth, a native of Litchfield, Mich., has ranked in the top 25 nationally by wins five times in a career that began in 1986, with his best years coming when he ranked sixth nationally in 2005, and 10th in 2006. According to Equineline, he has ridden the winners of 141 black-type stakes - most recently winning both the Mucho Macho Man at Gulfstream and Tom Ridge at Presque Isle last year aboard Dreaming of Kona, trained by Aldana Spieth. The horse was Grade 3-placed later in the season in Florida. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! Join DRF Bets.
