Jockey Rosier charged with domestic abuse
Chris Rosier, a onetime leading jockey in Louisiana, was arrested on Sunday and charged with two counts of domestic abuse, according to records from the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office.
Rosier, who rode Summer Bird to a sixth-place finish in the 2009 Kentucky Derby, remains in custody, according to the sheriff’s office, with bond set at $10,000. The charges include one count of aggravated assault and another count of strangulation, according to the arresting document.
Rosier’s career as a rider picked up in 2011, and in 2012 and 2013, the jockey rode mounts that earned more than $2.5 million in purses. However, his career opportunities have declined substantially since that high-water mark. Whereas the jockey rode 138 winners in 2012 and 160 winners the following year, he had just 32 wins in 2017 and 45 wins in 2018.
