DEL MAR, Calif. - Joel Rosario will ride at Santa Anita this winter and early spring on a full-time basis, he said over the weekend. This winter will be the first time Rosario has ridden at Santa Anita on a regular basis since the winter-spring meeting of 2018-2019, when he led the jockey standings. Rosario rode at Del Mar over the weekend. He will ride on a limited basis at the two-week Los Alamitos meeting that begins on Friday before focusing on the start of the Santa Anita meeting on Dec. 26. “I feel like I’ll be coming back home,” Rosario said between races on Saturday. Rosario, 38, said he made the decision in consultation with his agent, Ron Anderson. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! Join DRF Bets. Rosario has won three riding titles at winter-spring meetings at Santa Anita, beginning in 2010-2011 and 2011-2012. He finished second to Rafael Bejarano in 2009-10. At the time, Rosario and Bejarano were the dominant riders at Del Mar, Hollywood Park and Santa Anita. Last winter, Rosario rode primarily at Gulfstream Park, where he finished 12th in the standings with 17 wins. Last April, Rosario tied for sixth in the standings at the Keeneland spring meeting with 8 wins. In 2013, Rosario set a single-season record with 38 wins at the Keeneland spring meeting. Anderson also represents Frankie Dettori, who will ride in Southern California for the second consecutive winter when Santa Anita opens. Dettori announced earlier this year that he plans to remain in California after the Santa Anita winter-spring meeting in 2024. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
