Julie Wright Live Lucky took an early lead and never looked back in the Lake Huron at Woodbine.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Jockey Kazushi Kimura swept both $100,000 stakes for Ontario-sired 3-year-olds at Woodbine on Sunday, taking the Lake Huron on favored Live Lucky and the Georgian Bay aboard Little Teddy.

After breaking a tad slowly, Live Lucky darted out to a clear lead and never looked back in a three-length tally, in a time of 56.59 for the five furlongs on the inner turf.

Junior Hot Shot rallied to edge out Summer Commander for second in the five-horse field of colts and geldings.

Kimura also rode Live Lucky for trainer Kevin Attard when the son of Perfect Timber graduated in his June 9 debut in another inner turf dash.

“He showed some promise in the mornings before he won,” Attard recalled. “I actually expected him to show more speed that day, but I think he was a little bit nervous. Today with the pony, he was more settled. I think it’s just maturity on his end.”

Live Lucky ($4.30) earned $60,000 for the partnership of Exline-Border Racing, Michael Jawl and Aaron Kennedy.

Little Teddy rallied wide from a trailing fifth to win the Georgian Bay for fillies by a neck over 1-2 favorite Olivia Rose, as pacesetter Strike a Chord faded to third. Little Teddy covered the five-eighths on the inner turf in a rapid 56.20.

It was the first stakes victory for Santino DiPaola, who trains the daughter of Frac Daddy for York Tech Racing Stable, which received first money of $60,000.

“This has been the goal since I was born,” DiPaola said. “To have my mom and dad and my whole family here, it’s what I’ve dreamt of my entire life. She broke a little slow, but KK put her in the race and got her to the outside. The way she was traveling on the turn, ‘I said guys, we got this,’ and she came home from there.”
