Jockey Garcia released from hospital following spill

ARCADIA, Calif. – Jockey Martin Garcia returned home Thursday after his release from Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, Calif., following a spill on Wednesday at Santa Anita.
Garcia was treated for a concussion and kept overnight. According to his agent, Thom Mitchell, Garcia was home resting and scheduled for a follow-up examination Friday.
“I’m going to have to get him cleared by the doctors before he can ride,” Mitchell said. “He’s feeling good, no broken bones.”
Garcia is off his mounts this weekend and Mitchell said there is no precise timetable for his return to riding. He said Garcia hopes to resume working horses next week, pending medical clearance.
Garcia, 33, has won 26 races from 214 mounts this year. When he was the regular rider for trainer Bob Baffert, Garcia won the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Classic on Bayern, and 2010 Preakness on Lookin at Lucky.
