Leading jockey Antonio Gallardo escaped serious injury in a spill Sunday and is expected back this week after taking off the remainder of his mounts following the incident.
Gallardo reportedly suffered leg bruising when thrown to the dirt near the quarter pole in the second race by R Kinsley Doll when the 5-year-old mare suffered a catastrophic injury.
R Kinsley Doll, a winner of two Florida Sire Stakes events at Gulfstream Park as a 3-year-old in 2016, had to be euthanized. She earned $315,553 from 18 starts for owners Richard Averill and Silver Oak Stable.
Gallardo leads all riders in mounts (200), wins (44), and mount earnings ($769,881) at a meet that began Nov. 25.
