Euclyn “Pede” Prentice Jr., who rode regularly at Turfway Park and Belterra Park, died early Monday from injuries suffered the previous night when the vehicle he was driving collided with a bus near Turfway. Prentice, 28, was a native of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. He had ridden Sunday at Belterra, going winless in five mounts. His final win came May 18 at Indiana Grand. Prentice began riding in the U.S. in 2015 and had 256 winners from 2,582 mounts. He won 18 races at Turfway last winter. News of Prentice’s death spread quickly on social media. A website from his homeland, the Virgin Islands Consortium, reported: “The news has shocked Virgin Islanders both at home and abroad.”
