Jockey Dylan Davis enjoyed his best day as a professional rider Sunday, winning five races from eight mounts on the nine-race Aqueduct card. It was Davis’s first five-win day on the New York Racing Association circuit. On June 28, 2013, as an apprentice, Davis won five races at Indiana Grand Race Course. Davis, the 23-year-old son of the former jockey Robbie Davis, won Sunday’s opener aboard Sara Street ($8.60). He then alternated victories with Angel Arroyo as Davis took the third on Lutheran Rags ($4), and the fifth on Simona ($4.50). Arroyo won the second on Dig That Mine ($5.70), the fourth on Toohottooevenspeak ($3.70) and the sixth on Special Story ($3.70). After Manny Franco guided heavily favored Blewitt ($2.40) to victory in Aqueduct’s seventh race, Davis rallied Flash Trading ($9.40) and Casigordo ($21.80) to final-jump nose victories in races 8 and 9, respectively. “I just played it race by race and everything was falling into place,” Davis told NYRA publicity. “I just have to say thanks to the owners, trainers, and the horses, of course, getting it done. [I] just tried to ride my best race every day and it worked out today. It’s been a fantastic meet and that’s just due to working hard every day. My agent [Mike Migliore] and me, we work hard and we deserve this.” The five-win day moved Davis into second-place in the Aqueduct winter standings with 18 victories, three fewer than Manny Franco.
