Cesar Gomez-Previvo, a popular Quarter Horse jockey based at Remington Park, died in a Sunday night plane crash in Oklahoma. The death was confirmed by Carl Crisswell, a racetrack chaplain. Gomez was 27 and a native of Mexico, according to public record documents from the Oklahoma Racing Commission.

The plane crash was in Caddo County, which is located about 40 miles west of Oklahoma City. The plane was believed to be a six-passenger aircraft, according to onsite public officials, and its course had been diverted due to weather conditions. The officials, as well as officials from other agencies, said they could not confirm the identities of the two individuals who died in the crash.

Gomez, who ride as Cesar Gomez, reached a career pinnacle in 2015 when he won the Grade 1 All American Gold Cup at Ruidoso Downs aboard Rock You. His other major stakes win came at Remington, which is conducting a meet for Quarter Horses. Gomez captured the track’s 2017 running of the Grade 2 Bob Moore with The Fiscal Cliff. Gomez also won stakes at Prairie Meadows.

Gomez won the first race of his career at Remington, on March 22, 2014. Overall, he won 255 races from 1,462 starts, according to Daily Racing Form records. His mounts earned more than $5.6 million. This year, Gomez had won 12 races from 90 starts for mount earnings of $233,617. He last rode Saturday night at Remington. He had seven mounts on the card, and one of his most notable was Onewickedchick, who he guided to a third-place finish in the Grade 3, $218,000 Oklahoma Derby.

Gomez had an address in Colorado, according to public records, and rode last summer at Arapahoe Park in Aurora, Colo.

A memorial service for Gomez will be held at Remington, but the date has yet to be determined, Crisswell said.
