Jockey David Cabrera is progressing ahead of schedule as he works to come back from a broken femur sustained when thrown from his mount in a Sept. 21 race at Remington Park. Cabrera underwent surgery the next day to address the injury, which is located just above the knee. He met with his surgeon Wednesday and she has cleared him to start physical therapy right away, agent Jose Santos Jr. said Wednesday. “She was super happy with how he’s progressed,” Santos said. The surgeon felt Cabrera is progressing ahead of schedule. Santos said X-rays will be taken again in a month and a timeline for the rider’s return to work will be determined. The initial projection is that he could be back getting on horses in three to four months. “We were told to expect a complete recovery,” said Santos. Cabrera is a multiple title winner at Remington. He makes his home near the track, and is recuperating in Oklahoma. Cabrera will miss the remainder of the meet, which closes in December. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
