Jimi’s a Star up in time in Pelican Stakes

Jimi’s a Star was up for a three-quarter-length win over Titanium Pledge in the $70,000 Pelican on Saturday night at Delta Downs. It was a head farther back to Power Jet in third.
The Pelican, a two-turn race at seven furlongs, was for 3-year-olds bred in Louisiana and was restricted to non-winners of a stakes race.

Titanium Pledge took over through a half-mile in 48.40 and continued to lead through six furlongs in 1:14.33. The winner caught the leader while covering the distance on a fast track in 1:28.42.
Emanuel Nieves was aboard for trainer H.B. Johnson Jr.
Jimi’s a Star had run second or third in four stakes leading up to the Pelican. He is a son of Star Guitar and races for his breeder, James Boyd.
