Jessies First Down, Politicaly Correct clash in Refrigerator Handicap

Jessies First Down and Politicaly Correct will dodge the dominant Zoomin Effortlessly when they run Saturday night in the Grade 1, $75,000 Refrigerator Handicap for Quarter Horses at Lone Star Park. Both horses faced Zoomin Effortlessly last out in the Grade 1 All American Gold Cup at Ruidoso Downs and finished a respective second and third to the horse who has since romped by 2 1/4 lengths in the $250,000 Downs at Albuquerque Fall Championship.
The Refrigerator is one of three stakes on the card at Lone Star. Fire On the Fly will be seeking to win his sixth consecutive race when he goes in the $20,000 AQHA Distance Challenge at 870 yards, while Rock Princess gets back with fillies and mares for the $25,000 Merial Distaff Challenge.
Jessies First Downs finished a length behind Zoomin Effortlessly – winner of last year’s Refrigerator at Lone Star - in the All American Gold Cup. Jessies First Down had won back-to-back races leading into the start, among his efforts a half-length score in the Grade 2 Sam Houston Classic. The win came at the same 440-yard distance he will travel Saturday night in the Refrigerator.
Jessies First Down, who is owned by Ted Abrams and trained by Judd Kearl, will break from the rail under Jose Alvarez.
Politicaly Correct finished three lengths behind Zoomin Effortlessly in the All American Gold Cup. The start was Politicaly Correct’s first since October and he would seem to have reason to move forward Saturday. Adrian Huitron trains Politicaly Correct for Valeriano Racing Stables. Manuel Gutierrez has the mount from post 9.
Others making up a deep field for the Refrigerator include Jrc Callas First, the world champion Quarter Horse of 2014 coming off a fifth-place finish in a Grade 3 stakes in June at Delta Downs, and Dashin Brown Streak, the winner of last year’s Grade 1 Remington Park Invitational.
