Avoiding the severe trouble at the start that plagued two key rivals, Jess Savin Candy ($24) recorded an upset win in Sunday’s $1 million Ruidoso Futurity at Ruidoso Downs. Ridden by Francisco Calderon, Jess Savin Candy hopped at the start, but recovered quickly to reach contention midway through the 350-yard race. Jess Savin Candy trailed 6-1 Jess Fire Me by a head with about 100 yards remaining, and pulled in front late to win by a head. Jess Savin Candy was timed in 17.59 seconds. Revenant Moon, the 9-10 favorite, was unprepared at the start and raced at the back of the field of 10 throughout, finishing 7 1/4 lengths behind Jess Savin Candy. A filly, Revenant Moon was beaten for the first time in her fourth start Sunday.
