Jess Savin Candy won his second Grade 1 race of the Ruidoso Downs meet Sunday when he handled an off track to capture the $1 million Rainbow Futurity for Quarter Horses by a nose over Cc Hocks. It was another neck back in third to Double Duty. Earlier in the meet, Jess Savin Candy won his maiden in the Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity. He is the lone horse eligible to sweep the track’s Triple Crown for 2-year-olds, which ends with the All American Futurity in September.  Jess Savin Candy ($4.60) broke well and ran straight and true to the wire in the Rainbow, covering 400 yards in 19.60 seconds. Francisco Calderon was aboard Jess Savin Candy for Dutch Masters III and trainer John Stinebaugh. Jess Savin Candy was the fastest qualifier for the Rainbow on Day 1 of trials. Stinebaugh said last week that he felt the horse was an improving runner heading into the finale. “I don’t know where he tops out,” Stinebaugh said. “I hope it’s in the first week of September.”   Jess Savin Candy has now won 3 of 4 starts and the first-place check of $420,000 improves his career earnings to $846,400.
