Jess Move You all the way in Ruidoso Derby
Jess Move You broke on top and never looked back for a three-quarter-length win over Cartel Cupid in the Grade 1, $759,197 Ruidoso Derby for Quarter Horses on Saturday at Ruidoso Downs.
Kvn Corona, the champion who entered the race 9 for 9, finished eighth.
Jess Move You ($17.40) broke from the rail in the 400-yard race and was up by a head at the first point of call. He increased his advantage from there and covered the distance on a track rated fast in 19.72 seconds. Agustin Silva was aboard for trainer Rodolfo Valles.
Jess Move You earned $318,863 for his third straight victory, a streak that started in a stakes at SunRay Park and continued with his trial victory for the Ruidoso Derby. Jess Move You has now won four of 10 starts.
Jess Move You is an Oklahoma-bred son of Apollitical Jess who races for Ricardo Bernal and Reymundo Resendez.
Hierarchy finished third in the Ruidoso Derby, a neck behind Cartel Cupid. It was another half-length back to fastest qualifier Uptown Dynasty.
Jess Move You is now the lone horse in the running for a new $1 million bonus, which will be available to his owners if he also wins the Rainbow and All American derbies later in the meet.
