Jess Dream of Me tops first division of Los Alamitos Oaks time trials
Jess Dream of Me was quick enough to qualify for the $3 million All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs last summer, even though a troubled trip in the final led to a sixth-place finish.
Jess Dream of Me did not have the same luck in two starts at Los Alamitos last fall. She finished a troubled third in the Golden State Million Futurity trials in October, and won a division of the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity trials in November. Her time was too slow to gain a berth in the final of the Two Million.
More than three months later, the Utah-bred Jess Dream of Me looks well-placed in Saturday’s seventh race at Los Alamitos, the first of four time trials for the Los Alamitos Oaks for 3-year-old fillies. The 10 fastest runners in the 400-yard trials will earn berths to the $438,500 final on March 26.
Trained by Jose Flores, Jess Dream of Me has won 3 of 6 starts and earned $133,740. She won two time trials in Ruidoso last summer when trained by Clinton Crawford.
To be eligible for the Los Alamitos Oaks, Jess Dream of Me was supplemented to the race for $12,000 in December.
Jess Dream of Me will be tested in race 7, the first division of the Los Alamitos Oaks time trials. The race includes Fire Fast Honey, who won the Kindergarten Futurity last May but has not raced since she finished fifth by two lengths as the even-money favorite in the Governor’s Cup Futurity last July for trainer Monty Arrossa.
Call It Close, fourth in the Governor’s Cup Futurity, starts in the eighth race for trainer Cesar DeAlba against Chrissy Ledoux, a futurity winner at Turf Paradise in December who was supplemented to the Los Alamitos Oaks.
Runaway Witch, the winner of the Bitterroot Futurity at Pocatello Downs in Idaho last July and another supplemental nominee, can win the ninth race against Zoomin for Trix, who was third in the Bitterroot and sixth in the Wild West Futurity at Los Alamitos in October for Arrossa.
The final trial is led by She Goes Up, who won the Governor’s Cup Futurity in her final start of 2021. Trained by Scott Willoughby, She Goes Up was second in a 330-yard allowance race in her only subsequent start on Feb. 19.
Famous Carmilita, the winner of the Wild West Futurity, and Sweet Dasha Fire, a full-sister to 2014 World Champion Quarter Horse Heza Dasha Fire and a two-time winner, also start in the 10th race.
