Jeremiah Englehart sending 24 head to Oaklawn

New York-based trainer Jeremiah Englehart will have a division of horses at Oaklawn Park for the first time when the Hot Springs, Ark., meet opens Jan. 24.
Englehart said Tuesday he will have a 24-horse stable at Oaklawn. In the past, the trainer had sent a few runners to town for stakes.
“I liked the atmosphere and what they’re doing for racing,” he said.
Englehart said Oaklawn’s 3-year-old program was one of the reasons for setting up a division in Arkansas. He also said that he’s formed a working relationship with Pat Pope, the Oaklawn racing secretary who spends part of his year in that same capacity for the New York Racing Association.
“I got to know Pat Pope pretty well in New York,” Englehart said.
Englehart continues to be based in New York. He has horses stabled at Belmont Park and is racing this winter at Aqueduct.
Englehart put up career numbers in 2018, when horses in his care won 210 races and earned $7 million. Englehart has seen his charges earn more than $6 million in 2019, with one of his key wins the Grade 2 Kelso Handicap with Pat On the Back in September at Belmont Park.
Englehart, who is from a racing family, saddled his first winner in 2003 at Belmont Park.
