Jeff Johnston retires from saddle

Jockey Jeff Johnston, who won 1,408 Thoroughbred races with mount earnings of more than $15 million riding primarily on the Ohio and Kentucky circuits for over a decade, retired Sunday. Johnston, 36, has been a prominent member of the Jockeys' Guild and has accepted a position as the guild's Midwest representative.
