Jean Elizabeth wins fourth straight stakes in Holiday Inaugural
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
Jean Elizabeth won her fourth consecutive stakes race in the $75,000 Holiday Inaugural Stakes for fillies and mares Friday night at Turfway Park, the first stakes race of the season at the Florence, Ky., track.
Illinois-bred Jean Elizabeth, a 4-year-old Adios Charlie filly, was bred by trainer Larry Rivelli and Richard Ravin, and is co-owned by that duo, in partnership with Patricia's Hope LLC. The filly has now won 11 of 17 career starts, and has never been worse than third.
Already a stakes winner, Jean Elizabeth belatedly opened her 2019 season with a victory in the Isaac Murphy Handicap in July at Arlington Park. She then finished second by a nose in an allowance/optional claiming race at Presque Isle Downs, her only loss this season. She proceeded to win, in succession, the Sweet Briar Too Stakes and Grade 3 Ontario Matron Stakes at Woodbine, the Powerless Handicap at Hawthorne, and now the Holiday Inaugural.
Jean Elizabeth ($2.60), who was sent away favored under Albin Jimenez, quickly assumed command in the Holiday Inaugural, leading through a quarter in 22.34 seconds and a half in 45.26 seconds with a half-length lead over Domonette. She shook that foe off once straightened away into the stretch, and the outcome was never in doubt from there, as she opened up to the wire, winning by 3 1/2 lengths.
She stopped the clock in 1:09.39 for the six furlongs.
Domonette was a clear second, with Psalmody another 4 1/4 lengths back in third.
