Jean Elizabeth extends win streak to eight in Whimsical Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – No stranger to Woodbine, the unstoppable Kentucky shipper Jean Elizabeth won her eighth race in a row in Sunday’s Grade 3, $128,800 Whimsical Stakes.
Jean Elizabeth ($3.40) went straight to the lead under David Moran and set uncontested fractions of 22.36 seconds and 44.78 in the six-furlong sprint for fillies and mares.
Summer Sunday took up the chase in second, but the thoroughly professional Jean Elizabeth was never seriously threatened. She prevailed by a length over the closing longshot Painting, in a final time of 1:09.86.
Summer Sunday weakened to third and was followed by Charmaine’s Mia, Foxxy Belle, Gamble’s Candy, Western Curl, Ellyb, Ode to Joy, and Alnilah.
“She’s a rocket,” Moran said. “I watched all her replays, and if something went with me, they’re going to kill themselves. I wasn’t expecting her to be that quick with her ears pricked down the backstretch. She was galloping. She switched to her left [lead] around the turn, picked up again, and then when I straightened, she actually pricked her ears and waited a little bit. Nothing would get by her. I think she likes to wait for a fight.”
