HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Drawing the No. 14 hole in a Saturday stakes at Gulfstream Park was all David Fawkes needed to see when deciding to keep Jazil’s Dream in her stall.

In fact, Jazil’s Dream was one of three 4-year-old fillies scratched from the Soaring Softly Stakes – a two-turn turf race on the Florida Sire Stakes undercard Saturday – to wait some 24 hours for the only allowance on an 11-race Sunday program, a $44,000 turf mile that drew a field of 10.

Jazil’s Dream will have Luca Panici aboard again when breaking from post 4 in the ninth race Sunday. When last they united July 12, they were beaten a nose as a slight 5-2 favorite for this same first-level allowance condition with a $25,000 claiming option.

Wild About Jass (post 5), who gets champion Venezuelan jockey Emisael Jaramillo, also was scratched from the Soaring Softly to run here, as was Sweet Morgan (post 9, Pedro Monterrey Jr.).

Race 9

KEY CONTENDERS

Jazil’s Dream (Last 3 Beyers: 72-72-69)

◗ After failing to win in six combined starts at 2 and 3, this chestnut filly has really turned a corner for Fawkes, having knocked out her maiden condition at first asking for him in June before that narrow last-out defeat.

Wild About Jass (Last 3 Beyers: 79-68-79)

◗ Re-claimed by David Braddy last out for $25,000, she’s in peak form, having won three of her last five starts by using a steady off-the-pace kick; she’s one of four entered for the $25,000 claiming option.

Lexington Pearl (Last 3 Beyers: 65-60-76)

◗ One of two in here (with Derek’s Girl) for Marty Wolfson, she has plenty of back class behind a sparse recent racing schedule, although the fact that she’s entered for the tag might suggest she’s a shell of her former self.

Derek’s Girl (Last 3 Beyers: 74-73-76)

◗ Away more than eight months, she will have to overcome the far-outside post when also in for the $25,000 option; steady work slate precedes this comeback.

Sweet Morgan (Last 3 Beyers: 64-67-76)

◗ Stretch-running Florida-bred was late arriving on the scene when one of the wagering choices in the same July 12 race in which Jazil’s Dream was second.
