Jazil to miss Travers

David Grening|Jul 18, 2006

Belmont Stakes winner Jazil has been sent to the farm with bruising of the cannon bone in his right hind leg and will be out of training for a month, trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said Tuesday. The injury means that Jazil will miss the $1 million Travers Stakes on Aug. 26 at Saratoga Race Course.

McLaughlin said Jazil arrived at owner Sheikh Hamdan's Shadwell Farm in Kentucky on Monday morning. A decision on whether the colt can return to McLaughlin's barn will likely be made in three weeks, when X-rays will be taken. McLaughlin said he was hopeful of getting the horse back by mid-August and being able to train him up to the Jockey Club Gold Cup on Oct. 7 at Belmont Park.
