Jaxon Traveler hits big money with David M. Vance victory
Jaxon Traveler became a millionaire Sunday when he was prominent throughout for a 3 1/2-length victory over Run Classic in the $100,000 David M. Vance at Remington Park.
It was a neck back in third to U.S. Army.
The Vance, a six-furlong race for 3-year-olds and up, was one of eight stakes on a card led by the Grade 3, $400,000 Oklahoma Derby.
Jaxon Traveler ($8.20) broke from the rail and proceeded to set a pressured pace, joined by two other rivals through an opening quarter in 22.14 seconds. He continued on through a half-mile in 44.92 before moving away from the competition in the stretch to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:09.19.
“He broke alert, put me right there early and finished up when I asked him,” winning rider Stewart Elliott said in a post-race interview conducted by Remington. “Nice horse.
“He’s a millionaire now.”
Jaxon Traveler has now won eight stakes in his career. The son of Munnings races for West Point Thoroughbreds and is trained by Steve Asmussen.

Jaxon Traveler boasts a career mark of 11 wins from 33 starts for earnings of $1,017,798.
Earlier on the card, Asmussen and Elliott teamed to win the $50,000 E.L. Gaylord Memorial with Glee ($4.60), who broke on top, set a pressured pace, then drew out by 15 1/2 lengths. The winner took the field through an opening quarter in 22.36 seconds and a half-mile in 45.73 before covering 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:16.90.
Remington Green, Ricks Memorial
Lorenz closed from next to last to win the $75,000 Remington Green by 1 1/2 lengths over Fuerteventura. It was another head back in third to Spoiler.
Lorenz ($13.20) settled off the pace as Unload and Mor Victory took the field through an opening quarter in 23.57 seconds and a half-mile in 48.10. Lorenz moved to the lead through six furlongs in 1:13.59 and went on to cover the 1 1/8 miles on firm turf in 1:51.94.
“He’s a cool horse,” winning rider Drayden Van Dyke said in a post-race interview conducted by Remington. “He sits back there. You just have to wait and he gives you a good punch.”
Lorenz came into the Remington Green off a fast-closing win in an overnight handicap at Gulfstream Park.
Saffie Joseph Jr. trains Lorenz, a son of Forestry, for Daniel Alonso.
In the turf counterpart for fillies and mares, Dana’s Beauty rolled home by 6 1/4 lengths over Colors of the Wind in the $75,000 Ricks Memorial. Dana’s Beauty became the third next-out stakes winner to emerge from the Kentucky Downs Preview Ladies Turf Mile at Ellis Park behind Walkathon and Safeen.
Dana’s Beauty ($2.40) tracked the pace set by Imaluckycharm, who took the field through an opening quarter in 22.54 seconds and a half-mile in 48.40. Dana’s Beauty moved to the lead through six furlongs in 1:13.16 and was in control through the stretch to cover the 1 1/16 miles on firm turf in 1:45.21.
Ramon Vazquez, who has won multiple titles at Remington, was in to ride for trainer Mike Maker. Vazquez is now based in Kentucky. Dana’s Beauty is a daughter of Not This Time who is owned by Resolute Racing.
*Jolly Samurai ($7.80) remained unbeaten in two starts when he was up for a neck win over Ring Seeker in the $75,000 Kip Deville for 2-year-olds. He covered six furlongs in 1:11.65. Rene Diaz was aboard the son of First Samurai for Jake Brown and trainer Danny Pish.
*Holly Dolly ($5.60) won her third straight race at the meet when she overtook dueling leaders Palacein and Closing Act en route to a 5 1/2-length victory in the $50,000 Flashy Lady. Iram Diego was aboard the winner, who covered six furlongs on a fast track in 1:10.20. Ray Ashford Jr. trains the daughter of Brody’s Cause for Tom Durant.
