Jaxon Traveler eyeing Jimmy Winkfield Stakes

The undefeated 2-year-old Jaxon Traveler is under consideration for an upcoming stakes at Aqueduct, according to trainer Steve Asmussen.
Jaxon Traveler is 3 for 3, winning his starts by a combined margin of 14 3/4 lengths. His latest came in the $100,000 Maryland Juvenile Futurity on Dec. 5 at Laurel Park. Asmussen said the horse is now back at Belmont Park.
“The Jimmy Winkfield at Aqueduct is a possibility,” he said.
The seven-furlong race for 3-year-olds is Jan. 31. It has a purse of $100,000.
Jaxon Traveler was a 10-length maiden special weight winner in September at Pimlico, and a month later won a first-level allowance at Laurel with a Beyer Speed Figure of 83.
“He’s a very professional horse,” Asmussen said. “Straightforward, generous – with very good ability.”
Jaxon Traveler is a son of Munnings who races for West Point Thoroughbreds and Marvin Delfiner.

Asmussen trainee Bankit equaled his best career Beyer, a 98, last week at Aqueduct when he won the $100,000 Alex M. Robb. He rallied from off the pace for a 4 3/4-length win under Lezcano.
“I thought Jose gave him a very good trip,” Asmussen said. “I’m extremely grateful for Bankit to break through with an emphatic victory like that. The horse has kept excellent company for more than a year. I’m very anxious to see how he responds to his recent success.”
Bankit races for Winchell Thoroughbreds and Willis Horton.
