Jaramillo notches stakes double with Martha Washington and Not Surprising

Jockey Emisael Jaramillo swept both stakes on the Gulfstream Park card Saturday when Lucky Polly nipped pacesetter Blue Mistress on the wire to win the $100,000 Martha Washington and Givemetwenty pushed past Monforte in the stretch to take the $100,000 Not Surprising.
Jaramillo won four races on the 12-race program. He also accounted for the third race with Just Kidding ($2.60) and the fourth with R Man Joe ($3.20).
The stakes Saturday were for 3-year-olds at a mile on the grass. The turf was firm.
Givemetwenty ($5.20) stalked the pace in third in the Not Surprising, as Graceful Kitten and Monforte took the field through an opening quarter in 23.03 seconds and a half-mile in 46.73. Givemetwenty advanced on the final turn through six furlongs in 1:10.55, and worked past Monforte in the lane. The winner covered the distance in a quick 1:33.71.

Lucky Polly ($10.80) settled in second in the Martha Washington for fillies as Blue Mistress zipped to a clear lead and set fractions of 24.03 for the opening quarter, 48.39 for the half-mile and 1:12.26 for six furlongs. Lucky Polly moved in on the leader on the final turn, continued the chase in the lane, and was up by a nose over that one. It was another length back to Tournesol in third.
Lucky Polly covered the distance in 1:35.46.
Emisael Jaramillo was aboard for Gary Barber and trainer Mark Casse.
Lucky Polly earned $60,760 for the win, which was her first in a stakes. Earlier this year, she was a maiden special weight winner over the turf at Gulfstream. Lucky Polly is a half-sister to two stakes winners and is by Lookin At Lucky.
