Japan: Real Impact takes 4th shot at Yasuda Kinen
Real Impact, the Japan-based runner who won the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes in Australia on March 21, will have his third start of the year in Sunday’s $1,554,918 Yasuda Kinen at a mile on turf at Tokyo Racecourse in Japan.
The 7-year-old Real Impact will have his fourth appearance in the Grade 1 Yasuda Kinen, which he won as a 3-year-old in 2011. Real Impact was third in 2012 and 13th last year.
This year, Real Impact has had better form. Aside from the win in the George Ryder Stakes, Real Impact was second in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile at Randwick Racecourse in Australia on April 6.
Real Impact, by the Japanese star stallion Deep Impact, is trained by Noriyuki Hori for U. Carrot Farm. Hiroyuki Uchida has the mount in the 18-runner Yasuda Kinen.
The competition includes the 6-year-old mare Keiai Elegant, who was second in the Group 1 Victoria Mile for fillies and mares at Tokyo on May 17, and Maurice, who has won three consecutive starts this year.
There are two recent Grade 2 winners in the field in Red Arion, who won the Yomiuri Milers Cup at Kyoto on April 26, and Sakura Gospel, the winner of the Keio Hai Spring Cup at Tokyo on May 16.
* Dylan Mouth, winner of the 2014 Italian Derby, is among eight entrants in Sunday’s $269,079 Gran Premio de Milano, a Group 1 race at 1 1/2 miles on turf in Italy.
Dylan Mouth, a colt by Dylan Thomas, won the Group 1 Gran Premio del Jockey Club last October and a Group 3 race in Italy on May 17 to start his season. The competition in Sunday’s race includes Cleo Fan, a 4-year-old colt who won the Group 1 Premio Presidente Della Repubblica at 1 1/4 miles on turf in Italy on May 10.
