Japan: Deep Impact a perfect 6 for 6

Alan Shuback|Sep 26, 2005

Deep Impact remained undefeated with an impressive score in the Grade 2, $953,000 Kobe Shimbun Hai at Hanshin.

Running for the first time since his Japanese Derby victory on May 29, Deep Impact, a Yasuo Ikee-trained son of Sunday Silence, came with a strong late run under Yutaka Take to defeat runner-up Six Sense by 2 1/2 lengths, getting the 1 1/4 miles in a swift 1:58.40 on firm ground as the 1-10 favorite. Now 6 for 6, Deep Impact will attempt to become Japan's first Triple Crown winner since Symboli Rudolf in 1984 in the 1 7/8-mile Kikuka Sho, or Japanese St. Leger, at Kyoto on Oct. 23.
