Janus Stakes matches Breeders' Cup participants Extravagant Kid and Imprimis

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – The new year will ring in here Friday with a trio of turf stakes, including the $75,000 Janus, a five-furlong race that features a match between defending champion Extravagant Kid and multiple graded stakes winner Imprimis, both of whom exit the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint at Keeneland.
The outstanding card also features the $75,000 Abundantia for fillies and mares going five furlongs and the $75,000 Cash Run at one mile for 3-year-old fillies.

Extravagant Kid rallied to a one-length victory in the 2019 Janus, which was switched from the turf to a fast main track. Extravagant Kid was Grade 2-placed twice before finishing a solid fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, just a length behind winner Glass Slippers.
Imprimis, perfect in four starts over this course, seeks to rebound from a very unlucky trip in the BC Turf Sprint. He was forced to take up sharply in traffic near midstretch before coasting home next to last, nearly 10 lengths behind the winner.
