Jaime Rodriguez wins aboard seven mounts on Friday at Laurel
Jockey Jaime Rodriguez won seven races from eight mounts Friday at Laurel Park.
Rodriguez, who vaulted to the top of the Laurel jockey standings in wins with 47, six ahead of Jeiron Barbosa, won four of those races Friday for trainer Jamie Ness.
Rodriguez won the first five races on the card aboard Center Bid Maddie ($8.60), Albertrano ($4.80), Six the Hardway ($12.40), Big Cheeks ($6.20) and Pelota ($3.60). Center Bid Maddie, Big Cheeks and Pelota were all trained by Ness.
Rodriguez’s streak was snapped in the sixth when he finished fifth aboard the Ness-trained Peach Be With Q. Rodriguez and Ness teamed up to win the seventh with Semper FI ($3.80) before Rodriguez completed his successful day by winning the eighth on Shaft’s Bullet ($3.60). Rodriguez didn’t have a mount in the ninth.
Eddie Castro is believed to have won the most races on a single card, booting home nine winners at Gulfstream Park West on June 4, 2005. Castro went 9 for 11 on what was a 13-race card.
A native of Puerto Rico, Rodriguez attended the Escuela Vocacional Hipica jockey school and has been riding in the U.S. since 2010. He rode at Aqueduct and Belmont before moving his tack to Finger Lakes, where he won five riding titles from 2013-2019.
Rodriguez has been riding in the Mid-Atlantic region since 2020 and has been the leading rider at Delaware Park in 2021 and 2022.
