Jacobson likes his chances with Mid Day Image

ELMONT, N.Y. -- Trainer David Jacobson has a lot of confidence in Mid Day Image, who heads Thursday’s featured allowance/optional $62,500 claiming feature on a twilight card at Belmont Park.
“I wouldn’t want to run against him Thursday,” Jacobson said earlier this week.
Jacobson had entered both Mid Day Image and Cees Get Degrees in this six-furlong turf race. Since he named Irad Ortiz Jr. on both, he had to scratch one, that being Cees Get Degrees.
Jacobson purchased Mid Day Image out of the Keeneland January sale for $40,000 on behalf of himself, Winning Move Stable, and Sanford Robbins. Though the horse had been racing long, Jacobson ran him 5 1/2 furlongs at Laurel on April 13 and he came with a strong late run that carried him to victory. His final time of 1:00.68 was just .15 second off the course record.
Jacobson called the performance “very impressive. I nominated to the Jaipur, so we’ll see how good he is.”
Mid Day Image will break from the rail in a six-horse field.
There was a key scratch in the race, that being Mischievous Rogue, who was going to be the first start at Belmont Park for trainer Doug Cowans, who has trained 30 years, mostly in the Midwest. Mischievous Rogue was scratched by the New York veterinarian Thursday morning.
Brendan Walsh may have the speed of the race in Heaven Street, who comes off a third-place finish in the Elusive Quality Stakes going seven furlongs here on May 6. He set the pace that day, though that may not be his preferred running style.
Gun It has shown speed on dirt but only made two starts on turf in his 32-race career. He also has not won since July 2021 at Saratoga when he was in the barn of Steve Asmussen.
Others entered to run are Souper Success, Comedy Town, and Slipstream.
