Jack Snipe’s closed from next-to-last for a length win over Fee Do in the $75,000 A.L. “Red’ Erwin on Saturday at Louisiana Downs.

The race was one of two stakes on the card. Big Game Baby was a half-length winner over 4-5 favorite Bermuda Star in the $75,000 Elge Rasberry.

Both races were for 3-year-olds and were restricted to Louisiana-bred graduates of designated auctions. The stakes were run at a mile on turf, with the course listed as firm.

Jack Snipe’s ($29.80) let the pace go as Culp’s Hill set contested fractions of 23.84 seconds for the opening quarter, 47.05 for the half-mile and 1:11.63 for six furlongs. Jack Snipe’s advanced and in the stretch came rolling down the center of the track. He covered the distance in 1:35.75.

Jansen Melancon was aboard for trainer Gary Scherer, who co-owns the horse with Jeff Drown.

Jack Snipe’s earned $45,000 for the win, his second in a stakes behind the Louisiana Futurity in December at Fair Grounds. He has now won four of 10 starts and $204,690. Jack Snipe’s is a son of Half Ours.

Elge Rasberry

Big Game Baby ($14) trailed early in the Elge Rasberry as Swifty Cat set fractions of 25.25 for the opening quarter, 49.79 for the half-mile and 1:14.30 for six furlongs. Big Game Baby overtook her rivals and covered the distance in 1:38.02.

Gerardo Mora was aboard for trainer Joey Foster.

Big Game Baby is a daughter of Gold Tribute who races for Eat My Dust LLC.

Earlier on the card, the 2-year-old filly Flying Rosie ($3.40) won a maiden special weight by 19.75 lengths. She was making her fifth start and first at two turns. The daughter of Songandaprayer is trained by Pat Mouton.

Louisiana Downs will close its meet Wednesday.
