J P's Delight stays perfect with a 6 1/4-length victory

MIAMI - J P’s Delight remained undefeated and unchallenged after drawing off to a 6 1/4-length victory in Friday’s main event. The 3-year-old daughter of J P’s Gusto had captured her only previous start by 9 1/4 lengths while racing under a $35,000 claiming tag at Gulfstream Park on July 26, earning an 89 Beyer Speed Figure.
Jaime Rendon rode J P’s Delight to victory for trainer Kathleen O’Connell. He was one of eight different riders to win a race on Friday’s eight-race program.
Prado resumes riding
Edgar Prado returned to action after nearly a two-month absence, riding Hannah Catherine to a fifth-place finish for trainer Eddie Broome in Friday’s fifth race. The mount was the first for Prado since he suffered a rib injury in a spill in the final race at Gulfstream Park on Aug. 16.
Prado continues his quest to overtake Angel Cordero Jr. for the eighth spot on the all-time list of races won. He is 26 victories behind his fellow Hall of Famer, with 7,031 wins, the most notable of which came aboard Barbaro in the 2006 Kentucky Derby. Prado won the Eclipse Award that season and was inducted into the Hall of Fame two years later.
“It’s nice to be back,” said Prado. “For now, my plan is to stay here unless I get an offer to go somewhere else.”
