Izzy’s Baby Boy wins B-Connected with late surge

Izzy’s Baby Boy fought for a head win over Jax Man in the $70,000 B-Connected on Saturday at Delta Downs.

The Louisiana-bred stakes were the features for the New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day cards at the Vinton, La., track.
Izzy’s Baby Boy ($16.20) settled just off a contested pace of 23.55 seconds for the opening quarter and 48.29 for the half-mile in the 7 1/2-furlong race for 4-year-olds and up. He advanced on the final turn and just got up, covering 7 1/2 furlongs on a fast track in 1:35.47.
Tommy Pompell rode the winner for Kendel Standlee.
The B-Connected was restricted to non-winners of a stakes. Izzy’s Baby Boy, who is by Shackleford, has now won 5 of 31 starts and earned $208,235.
