Ivan Fallunovalot cruises in Remington Sprint Cup
OKLAHOMA CITY – Ivan Fallunovalot ran a powerful race Sunday in his final prep for the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, when he darted to a 2 1/2- length win over Candip in the $150,000 Remington Park Sprint Cup. Ivan Fallunovalot covered six furlongs in a quick 1:08.42.
The Sprint Cup was one of seven stakes on a card led by the Grade 3, $400,000 Oklahoma Derby.
Ivan Fallunovalot ($2.40) settled in third in the early stages of the Sprint Cup, as Candip and Homerun Berti dueled through an opening quarter-mile in 21.88 seconds. Ivan Fallunovalot moved to the leaders three wide approaching the quarter pole and took over after a half-mile in 44.32. Ivan Fallunovalot proceeded to roll home, to pick up his second straight stakes at the meet following the $75,000 David M. Vance in August.
“I had an awesome trip,” said winning rider Calvin Borel. “He left there running today, sitting right off of them like we wanted, and finishing.”
Tom Howard, who trains Ivan Fallunovalot for Lewis Matthews Jr., said provided the horse comes out of the race in good order the plan is to point for the Grade 1, $1.5 million Breeders’ Cup Sprint on Oct. 31 at Keeneland.
“I know one thing, if he goes, I’ll be there,” said Borel.
Ivan Fallunovalot was winning his fourth career stakes race in the Sprint Cup. Overall, he has won 11 of 19 starts and $476,910. Ivan Fallunovalot was bred in Texas by Eileen Hartis.
