Ivan Dalos to receive E.P. Taylor Award; Sovereign media award finalists announced

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The Jockey Club of Canada announced that Ivan Dalos will be the recipient of the E.P. Taylor Award of Merit during the 47th annual Sovereign Awards ceremony on April 14 in Vaughan, Ontario. Selected unanimously by The Jockey Club of Canada's stewards, the E.P. Taylor Award is a lifetime achievement award honoring those who have made significant contributions to the Thoroughbred industry in Canada and accomplished outstanding individual achievements in Canadian racing.

The owner of Tall Oaks Farm, Dalos has been a successful owner and breeder for more than 45 years. Currently an owner of 38 broodmares and three stallions in Ontario, Dalos bred Eclipse Award winners Victory Gallop and Channel Maker. He has won a host of Sovereign Awards, including for outstanding breeder twice.

Denzil Fonseca has been named as the Sovereign Award recipient for outstanding groom for 2021. This year marks his 40th year working on the Woodbine backstretch. Currently employed by trainer Mike Doyle, he cared for 2017 Queen’s Plate and Woodbine Oaks winner Holy Helena.

The following are the finalists for the 2021 Sovereign Awards media categories. Judging for the media awards is performed by media professionals within the industry selected from across North America. A 4-2-1 points system is used to determine the first-, second-, and third-place finalists in each category.

The winners will be announced during the awards ceremony, along with the previously announced finalists for 2021.
